Police enforcement on the first day of school resulted in citations, warnings and one arrest.
Four officers with the Vancouver Police Department spent Wednesday morning and afternoon patrolling various school zones in the Vancouver and Evergreen school districts.
The agency reported that they issued 20 citations for speeding in a school zone, six citations for suspended driving, six miscellaneous traffic violations, and five warnings for speeding. They also made one arrest on a felony warrant.
Officers will be conducting increased school zone enforcement through the end of September, though will continue enforcement throughout the school year. Officers will be on the lookout for speeding, distracted driving and motorists breaking laws surrounding school buses. They will also be keeping an eye out for seat belt use and child passenger safety.
