A second construction crane was erected Tuesday at The Waterfront Vancouver, rising near the corner of Columbia Way and Grant Street.

The new, red crane, seen anchored into the foundation of future apartment buildings and retail stores, will help crews led  by Vancouver firm Robertson & Olson Construction build for the coming months.

Phase one of the waterfront — two restaurant buildings and a 90-foot cable-stayed pier jutting out over the Columbia River — is slated to be completed next summer.

Ground first broke in June 2016 at the former site of the Boise Cascade paper mill. The redevelopment is expected to cost $1.5 billion and is spearheaded by investment group Columbia Waterfront LLC.
