Summer weather continues with more hot, dry weather ahead. At 5 p.m. Saturday in Vancouver, it was 91 degrees, the high for the day. Today and Monday we toast in the middle to upper 90s.

In addition, we see smoke from the numerous wildfires drifting our way with a slight north-northeast wind aloft today and Monday. Then winds switch from the southwest and we may get smoke from the Chetco Bar fire in Oregon.

Things cool off Wednesday through Friday at around 84 to 88. Some forecast charts for Labor Day weekend indicate we could see more 90-degree weather. There is no rain in sight any time soon heading our way. So, September will continue on the heels of August with warm, dry weather dominating the picture.

The National Weather Service in Portland issued a heat advisory for today and Monday as well as a Red Flag Warning for extreme fire danger. It is tinder dry out there folks and it wouldn’t take much to start a blaze. Vegetation along roadways is about as dry as it gets.

It is amazing that while the grasses are a dead brown, the weeds remain a luscious green. Four years ago today, it was really raining, Oh, how I love the sound and smell in the air that it brings especially after a long dry spell. That tenth of an inch of rain we had on August 13th seems like a distant memory.

I have had many folks tell me they can certainly sense a change in the seasons lately. The cooler overnight lows, shallow ground fog, lower sun angle and all. Yep, summer is waning quickly but makes one last blast before September arrives Friday.
