Washougal — The Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance hosted a dedication ceremony Aug. 5 for the city’s newest piece of public art: a life-sized bronze sculpture of a Belgian Malinois, a common breed of police service dog.

The statue, “Forever Faithful,” is located at the Washougal Police Department, 1320 A St., Washougal. Susan Bahary created the piece and was on hand for the dedication to talk about her work.

“This is not a memorial,” Washougal City Councilor Joyce Lindsay, the alliance member who started fundraising efforts for the statue, said in a news release from the organization. “This sculpture stands as a tribute to the extraordinary service dogs that support our police force, as well as all who serve our community.”
