Police on Saturday arrested a knife-wielding man whom they say shouted, “Have you ever been stabbed?” while approaching a group of people at the Fort Vancouver Historic Site.

According to the Vancouver Police Department, five people were standing near the site when, at around 4 p.m., Peter Hanna, 39, began shouting at them and charging toward them while holding a steak knife.

Hanna got to about 10 feet away from the group, police said in a probable cause declaration filed in court, while making repeated stabbing motions with the knife.

Booking documents did not list a home address for Hanna but said he was born in Vancouver.

Had the group not moved away, the responding officer said, Hanna would have quickly made contact with them.

Police said the group shouted back at Hanna, and he eventually backed away.

The responding officer arrived to see a commotion, and Hanna throwing things at the group, court records state.

The officer detained Hanna and gave him a Miranda warning, and then Hanna confessed to threatening the group with a steak knife, police said in court documents.

Hanna was arrested on suspicion of three counts of second-degree assault.

He made his first appearance in court Monday and is being held on $40,000 bail. His arraignment, where he would be formally charged, was set for Aug. 18.
