Vancouver — Clark County Adventist Community Services held an open house Sunday at its newly purchased building in central Vancouver. The nonprofit will move its food bank and clothing closet to 3114 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., the former Red Cross Building, which is larger than its current facility. First, the group needs to raise about $500,000 to cover costs of remodeling the rundown building.
Adventist Community Services is soliciting donations online at www.generosity.com/community-fundraising/ccacs-food-bank-move-to-improve-our-services. People can also visit www.generosity.com and search for CCACS. Every donation is matched up to $65,000. All donations go toward the supplies and materials for remodeling work, which will include knocking down walls to make some areas bigger and adding about 600 square feet to the building, bringing the total square footage to about 5,600. Maranatha Volunteers International, which builds schools, churches and other buildings worldwide, has offered to donate labor.
Some homeless people who use Clark County Adventist’s services have already helped clean up the grounds at the new building by clearing debris and trimming and removing trees and bushes.
The lease at the nonprofit’s current facility off St. Johns Boulevard ends in November. The plan is to move into the new building before then to prevent any service interruption.
