Race for 2nd tight in Wastewater District Position 3 contest

Incumbent John “Denny” Kiggins leads with 57 percent of the vote to retain his seat on the Clark County Wastewater District Commission, but the race is tight for second and a spot on November’s general election ballot.

Only 92 ballots separate the two challengers, Charles “Chuck” McDonald and Jim West, both running their first campaigns. Clark County Auditor Greg Kimsey said he expects to know the winners by Friday, but the results won’t be considered official until Aug. 15.

Kiggins has held his spot in Position 3 for the Clark Regional Wastewater District Commission for 18 years.

“I feel happy,” he said.

Kiggins doesn’t see anything that he would change about the district because everything is so well run, he said. “I don’t think it could be ran better than it is now.”

Kiggins ran uncontested in the previous two elections for the spot, which holds a 6-year term, and this is his fourth time running for wastewater commissioner.

“It is what it is,” McDonald said. “I didn’t put signs up or anything, so I’m just trying to do the grass-roots thing. We’ll just wait and see.”

West could not be reached for comment.

Kiggins wants to keep the wastewater rates the lowest in the county, he said — something that he is proud of.
