The blisteringly high temperatures expected in Southwest Washington this week have pushed many organizations to shelve some upcoming events.
A number of local organizations have also opened their doors to give the public a place to cool off.
Clark County announced the Franklin Street Farmers Market will be closed Wednesday. It is expected to resume its normal schedule from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9 at 1300 Franklin St. in Vancouver.
The Vancouver Farmers Market has also canceled its Thursday market at Columbia Tech Center this week, though next week’s markets are scheduled as normal.
The city of Vancouver has canceled several camps and rescheduled an outdoor concert during the hottest times of day. Those who registered for a now-canceled activity that can’t be rescheduled will receive a pro-rated refund or credit.
Access to Recreation Camp is canceled Wednesday and Thursday. Camp participants will be updated on Friday’s status Thursday.
Adult and youth tennis lessons are canceled Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday’s Ladies Night is also canceled.
Baseball and T-Ball leagues at Fisher Basin and Bagley Parks are canceled Wednesday. A few Saturday games will start earlier; details will be released later.
Bike Camp at Fort Vancouver is canceled Wednesday through Friday.
Drop-in sports at the Marshall Community Center are canceled Wednesday and Thursday.
Sensory Camp is canceled Wednesday and Thursday. Participants will be updated on Friday’s status Thursday.
Soccer Leagues at Fisher Basin and Marshall Parks are canceled Thursday.
Summer Playgrounds Program at Evergreen Park will end early Wednesday and is canceled Thursday.
Programs at Crestline Elementary, Hough Elementary, Image Elementary and Hearthwood Park may end early.
Teen Camps and Youth Adventures Camp at the Firstenburg and Marshall community centers will run, but Thursday’s field trips are canceled.
SPARK Camp at Fircrest Elementary School will continue as scheduled, but Wednesday’s field trip is canceled. Indoor spaces will be utilized instead.
Orientation for 50-plus Forever Young Hikers is canceled Thursday; it has been rescheduled for noon on Aug. 17.
The Six to Sunset Concert on Thursday featuring Coolade is rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 17. More information will be released later.
The Clark County Historical Museum will be closed Wednesday and Thursday due to the hot weather. Its First Thursday lecture and First Friday evening events are also canceled and will be rescheduled.
The city of Camas has canceled the upcoming Thursday’s Concert in the Park. Lisa Mann and Her Really Good Band has been
rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17 at Crown Park, 120 N.E. 17th Ave., Camas.
