Eight people were taken to hospitals following a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on state Highway 503 northeast of Woodland.

According to the State Patrol, Daniel W. Yoder, 63, of Los Gatos, Calif., was heading south on Highway 503 about 1 1/2 miles northeast of Woodland, toward the highway’s intersection with Butte Hill Road, around 10:30 a.m.

At the same time, Corey A. Pearson, 18, of Woodland was traveling toward the highway on Butte Hill Road.

The State Patrol said Pearson failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the highway, where Yoder’s pickup collided with his car.

Yoder and three passengers in his vehicle — Rebecca L. Yoder, 63, of Los Gatos, Gary W. Massingill, 62, and Nancy L. Massingill, 60, both of Bellevue– were taken to PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center in Longview.

Pearson was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in Vancouvers. His passengers — a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old girl, and Corbyn J. Zychowicz of Vancouver — were also taken to PeaceHealth Southwest. Where the girls were from wasn’t available.

Yoder and his passengers’ status, and the status of the teenage girls in Pearson’s car, were unavailable Tuesday afternoon.

Zychowicz was listed in critical condition and Pearson in satisfactory condition, according to PeaceHealth Southwest.

Clark County Fire & Rescue responded to assist Cowlitz County Fire District 1. A Life Flight helicopter transported one patient.

The State Patrol said Pearson failed to yield and said it recommended charges of vehicular assault.

The agency said drugs or alcohol were not involved and that everyone was wearing seat belts.
