Firefighters responded Saturday morning to a structure fire near Heritage High School in Orchards.

The Vancouver Fire Department received a call at 10:41 a.m. of smoke coming from a residence at 14207 N.E. 81st St., said Pete Adams, a firefighter/paramedic and spokesman for the department.

Adams said firefighters did a quick walk around the house when they arrived. They found the smoke and fire “isolated to the kitchen.”

It is possible the homeowner had used an extinguisher on the fire, Adams said, but noted he could not confirm that at the time. He said he could confirm that the fire was quickly extinguished and “contained to the stovetop.”

Adams said firefighters checked for extension of the fire but found none. “It didn’t extend to the cabinets.”

The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated by the Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office.

Adams said no one was injured in the fire and no one was displaced from their home
