Hockinson musicians earn awards at multiple competitions

Brush Prairie — It was a successful few weeks for Hockinson High School musicians.

The Hockinson High School Jazz Band won overall first place and first place for sight-reading at the University of Portland Jazz Festival on April 13, where Karl Drendel was named an outstanding division soloist on guitar and Jesse Smith, Jack Broer and Alexander Lee also received recognition for their solo work.

The following day, the high school’s wind ensemble and jazz band took second place in the AA Division of the Columbia Basin College Jazz Unlimited Festival. Shannon Dally received an outstanding musicianship award on the oboe, and Drendel was named an outstanding soloist on guitar.
