VANCOUVER – A new chapter in the history of a Vancouver landmark that dates back to 1848 will be noted Sunday at the Historic Covington House, 4201 Main St.

The renovated pioneer cabin will be the site of a 4 p.m. thank-you tea to mark a new digital resource as well as a new organizational identity.

As part of a Clark College project, four women have created a website (CovingtonHouse.org) that provides an online link for the facility. Allison Powell, Heather Dias, Jennifer Avens and Erika Schmidt will be special guests at the event.

The facility is being operated by a new group, the Covington House Heritage Society. Previously, it was operated and maintained by the Vancouver Women’s Club. The name was changed earlier this year to reflect the group’s sole mission of preserving the structure and to draw wider participation, from men as well as women.

Richard and Anne Covington originally built the cabin in what now is the Orchards area of Vancouver. It was disassembled and moved to its present location next to Kiggins Bowl about 90 years ago.
