Vancouver Public Schools announces administrative changes

Principals, associate principals to change positions

Vancouver Public Schools on Tuesday announced administrative changes at schools and district offices for the 2017-2018 school year.

At Chinook Elementary School, Principal Joe Lapidus will retire at the end of this school year. Patrick Conners, the principal at Washington Elementary School, will take over as principal at Chinook in August.

At Washington Elementary School, Kirsten Copeland will take Conners’ place as principal. Copeland is the current associate principal at Hazel Dell and Minnehaha elementary schools.

At Hazel Dell and Minnehaha, Marjorie McCluer will replace Copeland in the half-time associate positions. McCluer is currently a full-time associate principal at Discovery Middle School. Her spot has not yet been filled.

Lee Gunter, a counselor and administrative intern at Minnehaha, will become a half-time associate principal at Truman Elementary School.

Patrice Woods, half-time associate principal and teacher at Truman Elementary School, will become associate principal at Hudson’s Bay High School. Associate Principal Kevin Bryant is resigning due to family reasons.

At Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School, Anna Supplee will be associate principal. She is a special education mentor teacher who has been completing her administrative internship at Truman Elementary School.

At Fort Vancouver High School, Alison Watson, current administrative intern and CIS coordinator, will become associate principal. Allison Darke, currently an associate principal at Fort, will move to her previous role as resource coordinator of CIS.

At Skyview High School, Associate Principal Becky Phillips will retire. Jeremy Tortora, an administrative intern and teacher at Skyview, will replace her.

Finally, at the Jim Parsley Administrative Office, Daniel Bettis, interim executive director of special services, will move into the position full time. Brenda Martinek, who previously held the position, resigned due to family reasons. The principal position at Fir Grove/Vista and Gateway to Adult Transition Education, formerly held by Bettis, has not yet been filled.

All administrative staffing changes must be confirmed by the Vancouver Public Schools board.
