Clark County sheriff’s deputies swarmed the Maple Tree area early Friday morning in search of a suspect who allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a knife.

Law enforcement was called to Cascadia Village, an apartment complex at 9601 N.E. 73rd St., just after 5:30 a.m. for a report of a disturbance involving a knife, Sgt. Tim Bieber said.

Deputies were told a man, identified as 49-year-old Robert Nicholas, had threatened his girlfriend with the knife and then fled the apartment. He later was seen running in the area, Bieber said.

Between 10 to 12 police cars responded, including units from the Vancouver Police Department and Washington State Patrol, to set up containment and search the area with the help of a police dog, Bieber said.

Police stayed on scene searching for Nicholas for more than two hours but did not locate him. Bieber said police have probable cause to arrest him on suspicion of second-degree domestic violence assault and violating a no-contact order.

Anyone with information on the incident or who knows the whereabouts of Nicholas is asked to call 911.
