VANCOUVER – Veterans in need will benefit when the Clark County Veterans Assistance Center holds its annual fundraising dinner April 28.

The fifth annual Black & White Gala will be at the Heathman Lodge, 7801 N.E. Greenwood Drive.

Tickets are $70 per person or $130 per couple. Call the center at 360-693-7030.

The 6:30 p.m. dinner includes silent and live auctions.

Proceeds support outreach efforts at the Veterans Assistance Center, 1305 Columbia St., Vancouver. Not all veterans can access government benefits; those who are ineligible still can get some assistance at the center, thanks to community support.

Its biggest single assistance program is the annual veterans’ stand-down, which will have some new elements this year. It will be held Sept. 30 at the Vancouver Veterans Affairs campus, south of Fourth Plain Boulevard and west of Fort Vancouver Way.

The five previous stand-downs were held in August at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in east Vancouver. The new site is closer to other veterans’ services. The same sorts of gear will be issued to participants as in previous years, said Nick Herber, director of the 2017 Stand Down.
