A Vancouver man allegedly involved in a February hit-and-run of a pedestrian who later had his left leg amputated was arraigned Friday in Clark County Superior Court.

Joshua Allen Johnson, 31, entered not-guilty pleas to hit-and-run resulting in injury and possession of methamphetamine stemming from the Feb. 20 crash in the Minnehaha area that severely injured 34-year-old Paul P. Adams.

Johnson is the son of Shaun Johnson who was twice convicted in a 2013 crash that also cost Battle Ground teenager, Justin Carey, his lower right leg.

Clark County sheriff’s detectives said Joshua Johnson was driving a red 2002 Nissan Sentra southbound and struck Adams as he walked along the shoulder in the 4100 block of Northeast 54th Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. Johnson allegedly failed to stop and fled the scene.

A passer-by found Adams lying along the road. He was transported via ambulance to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where he is still recovering.

Debris left behind from the vehicle led investigators to believe that a Nissan sedan was involved. Officers located the suspect vehicle Feb. 21 at a residence in Vancouver’s Truman neighborhood, according to a probable cause affidavit.

A passenger in Johnson’s vehicle at the time of the crash told detectives they had gone to a warehouse near the Grand Central Station shopping center off state Highway 14 to buy methamphetamine. They then drove to a neighborhood not far from the crash scene, where they parked and talked for about an hour, the affidavit states.

Johnson started driving south on Northeast 54th Avenue to drop off the passenger when the crash occurred, according to court documents.

His trial is scheduled to begin May 30.
