An injured hand and smeared blood led Vancouver police officers to arrest a man on suspicion of breaking into multiple vehicles parked in the Kevanna Park neighborhood Thursday.

Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said officers responded to an auto prowl call in the area of Northeast 109th Avenue and Northeast Burton Road around 4 a.m.

When the officers arrived, one noticed a vehicle that matched the suspect’s leaving the area. Officers had the driver pull over, then noticed the man driving was bleeding significantly from his hand.

Other officers responding to the call found five vehicles with smashed windows, Kapp said, and some had fresh, wet blood smeared around the vehicles’ interiors and exteriors.

After he was treated for his injuries, officers arrested Zachary T. Wright, 21, of Vancouver on suspicion of five counts of second-degree vehicle prowling. He was booked into the Clark County Jail.
