Southwest Washington — Washington State University Vancouver and its Initiative for Public Deliberation teamed up to organize free community forums on homelessness this month in Clark and Cowlitz counties.
The forums “will seek to uncover the root causes of homelessness, challenges related to homelessness in the community and what is needed to meet these challenges,” according to a WSU Vancouver news release.
The schedule:
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Cowlitz County Conference Center, 1900 Seventh Ave. S.W., Longview.
• 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, WSU Vancouver in the Firstenburg Student Commons, 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave.
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Washougal Community Center, 1681 C St.
• 9 to 10:30 a.m. April 12, Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St.
• 6 to 7:30 p.m. April 24, Vancouver Community Library, 901 C St.
“We decided to hold these conversations on homelessness because it has become a major issue in our communities. Coming together to discuss this issue in a safe and inclusive environment will help us understand each other’s perspective and seek common understanding,” said Carolyn N. Long, director of the Initiative for Public Deliberation and associate professor in WSU’s School of Politics, Philosophy and Public Affairs.
