Event to honor military-bound students

Vancouver — Evergreen Public Schools will host the sixth annual “Our Community Salutes” event this month, honoring high school seniors planning to join the military after graduation.

Larry Smith, co-chairman of the Community Military Appreciation Committee, will open the program.

Speakers include a representative from Gov. Jay Inslee’s office, Clark County Councilor John Blom and Evergreen Superintendent John Deeder.

The program begins at 7 p.m. April 20 at Union High School, 6201 N.W. Friberg-Strunk St. A reception with cake and ice cream follows the ceremony.
