Washougal — The Salvation Army will hold a groundbreaking event at 10 a.m. April 11 for a five-building, $685,0000 project.
The new modular units will allow the nonprofit to expand its services in Camas and Washougal including utility assistance, rehabilitation, food and clothing.
“We are currently serving more than 400 people a week,” Samantha Wheeler, pastor of The Salvation Army Washougal Corps, said in a news release. “With the new building we anticipate an immediate 30 percent increase in services offered from this location.”
The Salvation Army already owned the modular units, which were moved from Bellevue. The existing building at 1612 I St. will be demolished and replaced with the remodeled units.
“We are very excited for this opportunity to grow our outreach in Washougal because they have struggled much too long with inadequate facilities,” Maj. Michael Nute said in the news release.
