RENTON — Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson will start Sunday against the New York Jets despite a knee sprain.
Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Wilson made it through the week of practices with no setbacks.
Wilson missed the first snap of his career due to injury last weekend after getting pulled down by San Francisco’s Eli Harold, spraining the MCL in Wilson’s left knee. Harold was fined $18,231 for his horse collar penalty.
It’s the second injury Wilson has dealt with this season after spraining his right ankle in the opener against Miami.
“He made it through and had his best week since the first week when he tweaked his ankle,” Carroll said. “He looked really good.”
Tight end Jimmy Graham was listed as questionable but is expected to play. Graham sat out Thursday’s practice due to back spasms but participated fully Friday. Carroll said he sees Graham as being fully back and without restrictions after getting extensive playing time the past two weeks.
“He’s had a great return. He’s really game ready to go now,” Carroll said.
Seattle is expected to see the regular-season debut of rookie guard Germain Ifedi against the Jets. Ifedi missed the first three games due to an ankle sprain suffered just before the season opener. Ifedi went through a full week of practice and is likely to start at right guard.
Carroll was cautious about the status of rookie tight end Nick Vannett, linebacker Mike Morgan and defensive tackle Jarran Reed.
Vannett is still working back from a sprained ankle suffered in the preseason but has a chance to play this week.
Carroll said Morgan could play but is dealing with a sports hernia, while Reed had a hip issue arise during Thursday’s practice. Reed sat out Friday and was listed as questionable.
Carroll gave no guarantees about newly acquired running back C.J. Spiller, only saying he “can” play against the Jets but not confirming whether he will.
“(It’s) pretty exciting to get a guy like that. … He had a good week. We’ll see where he fits in when we get to game time,” Carroll said.
Baldwin tells “60 Minutes Sports” he’s gotten death threats
Seattle wide receiver Doug Baldwin has told “60 Minutes Sports” that he’s received death threats in the wake of his decision to speak out about the need for reviewing police tactics.
In a transcript of the interview released Friday, Baldwin says that in the wake of expressing support for 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick he has received death threats.
“I had a few. A couple of people told me to watch my back,” Baldwin is quoted as saying. The interview is scheduled to air on Showtime next Tuesday.
Baldwin called for a review of training policies for law enforcement across the country last week in the wake of a pair of police shootings, saying the message NFL players are trying to send with their actions during the national anthem now needs follow through.
Baldwin says that despite the threats, he will not stay silent, adding “if something was to happen to me, I think that would just further prove my point that there are issues in our culture, in our society that need to be changed.”
