An elevator malfunction at a Vancouver retirement home Thursday morning left an elderly woman complaining of back pain.

Crews with the Vancouver Fire Department were called to the Knights of Pythias Retirement Center, 3409 Main St., just before 9 a.m. for an injury, Firefighter Pete Adams said.

The elevator had been going from the fourth floor to the first floor but dropped about 1 to 2 feet below the threshold of the first floor, Adams said.

Firefighters responded and assessed an elderly woman complaining of pain, but she refused medical treatment.
