Camas — Art Institute of Portland student Joshua Giurlani and a film crew visited Camas earlier this month to shoot part of his short film, “Patriots.” They filmed at Natalia’s Cafe and around Prune Hill Sept. 7-11. The film is about veterans and looks to dispel common misconceptions that people might have about being in combat. “This topic has been addressed in many documentaries but rarely in a narrative film, which limits its viewing by civilian audiences,” Giurlani said in a release from the film crew. Natalia’s Cafe owner Erica Slothower said she let them film in her restaurant because of Giurlani’s passion for the project. Her daughter, Bailey, 9, even got to help support the crew while filming. “Patriots” will premiere Dec. 17 at Cinema 21 in Portland.
