Battle Ground — Eric Stansberry traveled to Mississippi on Sept. 10-11 and brought home the first-place trophy from the Unlimited All-Stars Grand Nationals go-kart racing championship. The finals took place at Whynot Speedway in Meridian, Miss., on a dirt oval track. Drivers average 85 mph on the curves and more than 100 mph on the straightaways, according to an email from Stansberry’s father-in-law, Jan Wiard. Stansberry started competing in 2011, and this year swept through all four events in the Northwest Region Championship series en route to the national title. Stansberry’s team consists of himself and Wiard, who handles the fabrication and engine building.
