Community notebook: Rowers place at regatta

Vancouver Lake Rowing Club had several boats place at the Head of the Dog Regatta on Sept. 18.

Nicholas John and Erik Johnson took first in the Junior-Masters open pair race with the fastest time of all the pairs and doubles. They finished the 5,000-meter course in Multnomah Channel adjacent to Sauvie Island with a time of 21 minutes and 1 second.

The VLRC crew of Austin Baker and Jordan Kronstad took second in the junior double in 21:28.4. In that race. Isaac Baker and Walker Colson took fourth (23:04.5).

The VLRC crew of Phil Volz, Donn Venema, Michelle Mand and Holly Kotsovos finished third in the mixed masters quad race with a time of 20:27.

VTC hosts open house

Vancouver Tennis Center will host a free open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday to celebrate the facility’s 40th anniversary and the recent renovation of its outdoor tennis courts.

The event will include a chance to meet the tennis center staff, participate in tennis drills, learn about pickleball and more.

The center is at 5300 E. 18th St.
