Weather Eye: Cool, crisp weather coming for weekend, first week of autumn

Fine autumn weather continues this week with chilly nights and mild days. We shall enjoy another one today. That weather system we talked about a couple days ago looks like it will be a short-lived event with only light rain Friday ending by early Saturday.

Temperatures remain cool the rest of the week until Saturday. Friday with clouds and some moisture; it may struggle to get above 60 degrees.

Then high pressure builds and most of the first full weekend of fall will be nice. Autumn officially rolls in today so both weather folks and the public are on the same page now.

The leaves are really changing and I noticed many are dropping their leaves as the hours of daylight are whisking away. Soon everything outside will be yellow and orange to match all the fall retail items.

It seems like the period between Labor Day and Christmas goes so quickly doesn’t it? Soon we will be in the rainy season and with overnight clearing, increasing foggy periods. We mentioned the other day about the chances of any 80 degree days on the horizon.

It is quickly getting less of a chance of that as we slide into October. However, if we have a warm air mass overhead and an offshore flow of air it would happen. Forecast models show highs near 80 on Sunday and into the mid-80s on Monday.

After that we cool down and stay mostly dry, and perhaps stay in the rain shadow as weak storms hover to our north.

Our average high is 74 and low 50 degrees. Wednesday morning lows in Clark County dipped in the 40s and into the upper 30s in some locations. Cool and crisp just the way we like it for fall weather.
