Vancouver – More than 500 people turned out Tuesday for Evergreen Habitat for Humanity’s Annual Raising the Roof benefit breakfast, where more than $107,000 was raised. That money will go toward the construction of 10 homes for local low-income families at a new Habitat subdivision called McKibbin Commons, off Middle Way.
“Every day, we see firsthand the critical role decent housing plays in creating positive outcomes in people’s lives and in communities,” said executive director Josh Townsley. “We look forward to another year of creating safe and secure places for families to grow, be healthy and thrive.”
Volunteer Lloyd Viles received the 2016 Volunteer of the Year award; Dennis Ziesemer received the Ray Johnson award; and Chris Robertson of Robertson Engineering and Julie Danielson of Charter Communications both received the Community Partner of the Year award.
The first volunteer for Habitat for Humanity International, Clive Rainey, was speaker for this year’s breakfast. He shared stories from his experience around the world working and volunteering with Habitat for almost 40 years. The breakfast was at the Hilton Vancouver Washington.
