Clark County nursing assistant loses credentials over assault conviction

The state health department immediately suspended the nursing assistant credential of a Clark County woman following a felony conviction.

The state Department of Health suspended the credential of Julie A. Barnett, 42, on Monday. Barnett has 20 days to respond to the charge of unprofessional conduct. She cannot practice in the state until the charges are resolved.

Barnett’s credential suspension was based on a conviction of third-degree assault, a felony, on March 17. Barnett allegedly admitted she kissed a minor while her boyfriend had intercourse with the minor in April 2007, according to the health department.

She was charged in April 2007 with third-degree rape of a child and third-degree child molestation. The case was dismissed without prejudice in September 2007, because the prosecution was unable to secure the victim’s presence, despite a material witness warrant, according to court records.

Barnett was again summoned to appear in court to face those charges in August 2015. She entered an “in re barr” plea — which allows a defendant to plead guilty to a lesser related charge she didn’t commit to avoid conviction for a greater offense — to third-degree assault on March 17.

The state health department issued Barnett a certified nursing assistant credential in July 2002. Her license was last reissued in November.
