Vancouver to teach neighborhood leaders about resiliency

City is going to host a training leadership class

Esther Short — The city of Vancouver will host another class in its Neighborhood Leadership Training series from 6 to 8 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Aspen Room at City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St., Vancouver. The topic of this session is Building Resilience and Working More Effectively with Neighbors. The class will teach neighborhood leaders how to understand biological responses that occur when people are under stress or conflict and show them self-management practices to reduce personal stress and increase resilience. Leaders will also learn to understand and apply active-listening tools to understand neighborhood member’s concerns, as well as how to identify underlying interests and needs of neighborhood members. Nancy Pionk, executive director of Community Mediation Services, will lead the session.
