Non-league football: Columbia-White Salmon 54, Elma 49

Trenton Howard returned a kickoff 90 yards with 46 seconds left as the Bruins withstood a huge second half by Elma’s Ira Hartford.

Columbia led 21-0 at halftime, but Hartford brought the Eagles back by rushing for six second-half touchdowns, including TD runs of 49, 54 and 63 yards.

Elma tied the game 28-28 late in the third quarter, and again at 42-42 midway in the fourth quarter.

Zach Walker’s second TD run of the game gave Columbia-White Salmon a 48-42, but Elma took the lead back at 49-48 with 58 seconds to play.

But Howard’s kickoff return gave the Bruins the win.

Walker rushed for 166 yards on 22 carries.
