RIDGEFIELD — Museum representations of Native American culture will be the topic of Sunday’s program at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse, at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge unit north of town, 28908 N.W. Main Ave., Ridgefield.
At 1 p.m., Deana Dartt, curator of the Native American Art Collection at the Portland Art Museum, will speak about the museum’s efforts to address the impacts of native representations in the museum. She also will discuss how art, history and anthropology institutions incorporate native voices.
At 3 p.m., a naturalist will lead an ethnobotany hike looking at the relationship that the Cathlapotle people had to their landscape, and how environment and culture influence each other. Participants should be ready for a 1-mile hike on moderately uneven terrain.
The plankhouse will be open for visitors from noon to 4 p.m. The program will include children’s activities exploring local nature and culture.
Refuge admission is $3 per vehicle.
