Hazel Dell — Residents who want to be prepared if a disaster strikes can learn helpful techniques at a Community Emergency Response Team training this fall.

Clark County Fire District 6 and the Vancouver Fire Department are taking applications for the course, which begins on Sept. 22.

People with all skills and abilities are encouraged to participate in the roughly 20-hour training, which focuses on how to be self-sufficient for at least three days after a disaster. Curriculum includes basic organization, communication, fire suppression, disaster medical operations and psychology, terrorism awareness and light urban search and rescue.

The course costs $30 and applicants must be 18 or older or at least 16 years old if accompanied by an adult. The registration deadline is Sept. 16.

Applications are available at www.ccfd6.org/cert.html, in person at 8800 N.E. Hazel Dell Ave., or by calling 360-576-1195.
