The New Orleans Saints have reportedly waived Garrett Grayson.
The quarterback, who hails from Orchards and attended Heritage High School, was selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Pro Football Talk first reported Grayson’s release, citing an NFL source. Nola.com also cited a league source in reporting the news.
New Orleans hoped Grayson would eventually be the successor to Drew Brees. But he struggled in this year’s preseason, completing 39 of 70 passes for 409 yards with four interceptions and two touchdowns.
Grayson’s time in New Orleans might not be done. The Saints could sign him to their 10-man practice squad should no other team sign him before he clears waivers.
The Saints now have two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. Wednesday, Brees agreed to a contract extention that will reportedly guarantee him $44.3 million through the 2017 season. His backup is Luke McCown, who is entering his 13th NFL season.
