Lincoln — The Fort Vancouver chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution cleaned up a historic Oregon Trail marker at 4008 Main St., Vancouver, near the Covington House, and held a rededication ceremony for the marker. The Washington State Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Washington State Society Sons of the American Revolution teamed up to install a series of monuments marking the Old Trail around 1916. The daughters contacted Marion Hersey, a restoration specialist and member of the Sons of the American Revolution, to restore the Spirit of the Trail monument. Hersey is an experienced bronze memorial preservationist, and volunteers his time and materials to preserve monuments in Washington. He has restored more than 400 granite plaques and headstones, and refurbished or restored more than 100 brass and bronze plaques.
