Fort Vancouver National Historic Site is working with SOLVE Oregon to provide cleanup supplies and trash removal along a popular Columbia River trail on Sept. 17.

The project will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at a section of the Waterfront Renaissance Trail that provides a great view of the river, has access to a sandy beach and connects the downtown with restaurants.

Volunteers who participate will also learn from a National Park Service archaeologist about how this area was significant to the Hudson’s Bay Company in the 19th century.

The goal is to remove all the trash along the entire trail section from Who Song and Larry’s restaurant to the condominium complex to the east.

Volunteers must register at www.solveoregon.org/get-involved/events/fort-vancouver-riverside-beach-cleanup. (The group previously was known as SOLV, for Stop Oregon Litter and Vandalism.)

Trash bags, gloves, and some litter pickers will be available. Coffee and refreshments will be provided.

Meet at the National Park Service parking lots east of Joe’s Crab Shack and Who Song and Larry’s restaurants. Parking also is available along Southeast Columbia Street. Participants should not park in the restaurant parking lots.
