A Vancouver man who allegedly planned to shoot his brother-in-law in the face with a shotgun made a first appearance Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court.
Casey J. Woida, 25, appeared on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, felony harassment and second-degree assault — all domestic violence-related allegations.
The prosecution requested that Woida be held on $250,000 bail. Woida said setting that amount wouldn’t be “right.”
“I don’t feel I was there to kill anybody,” he added. Judge Derek Vanderwood set Woida’s bail at $150,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Woida’s sister called 911 at about 1:10 p.m. Saturday to report that her brother had a shotgun and was threatening to shoot her. She said he was angry about an incident that happened the day before.
While she was on the phone, Woida allegedly came to the door of her residence in the 11000 block of Northeast 112th Street, and told her, “I have a gun, and I will shoot you.”
She saw Woida holding a rifle case, she said, and believed it contained a firearm. She then locked herself inside her bathroom, the affidavit states.
Responding Clark County sheriff’s deputies contacted Woida outside the residence, and he reportedly told them he needs help. He said he purchased a shotgun and shells earlier that day and planned to shoot his brother-in-law in the face, court records said.
Woida reportedly lives with the couple. Deputies found a shotgun lying on Woida’s bed with shotgun shells sitting next to it, according to court documents.
During his hearing, Vanderwood said Woida does not qualify for a court-appointed attorney and must hire his own.
He will be arraigned Sept. 16.
