Weather Eye: Enjoy a break from showers before they return late Monday

Welcome to the early fall season, home of cooler temperatures, scattered rains and changing colors of the trees. The change in our warm, dry weather pattern began abruptly Sept. 1.

Some pesky showers lingered Saturday, and skies were clearing in the later afternoon. Temperatures were still struggling to reach the 70-degree mark at 5 p.m. Our average high temperature is now below 80 degrees at 79 degrees and falls off quickly as the month moves along.

We’ll enjoy fair weather today and Monday with temperatures still forecast to be a little below normal, mostly in the 70s. A cool northwest flow of air will keep the feel of autumn in the air. The ocean beaches once again had the best weather Saturday with clear skies and highs near 70 degrees while those pesky clouds lingered inland.

By late Monday, another weak system approaches and showers are back in the scene through Tuesday. Another bout of showers could arrive Thursday. Next weekend, we may stand a chance of getting back the average on the high temperatures.

I get many comments from folks that fall is their favorite time of the year. How about you? Things get back into a routine, the weather cools off, and the first dusting of snow coats the mountain peaks. The leaves are changing into their autumn attire, pumpkins are ripening, and family holidays are on the horizon.

Some of the almanacs are calling for a cold and wet winter, the same as the Weather Channel’s latest prognostication. Stay tuned.
