One water source in Vancouver Public Schools tested for elevated levels of lead: a kitchen prep sink used to wash produce at Salmon Creek Elementary School.

The state school limit is 20 parts per billion, and the federal limit is 15 parts per billion. The Salmon Creek sink tested for 29 parts per billion, according to a release sent out by the district on Friday.

The fixture was replaced and retested and is now below the allowable limit.

Vancouver conducted initial testing for lead in water at the oldest faucet or drinking fountain in each of the district’s 35 schools in early May, and results found all water samples were below the allowable limit for lead. The district continued testing other sources around the district, sending in 322 samples over the summer at water sources believed to be the most vulnerable. The Salmon Creek sink test was in this round of testing.

The district will continue testing as part of its preventive maintenance plan.
