Vancouver — Volunteers of all ages are asked to spend a day on Sept. 24 as citizen-scientists to inventory regional species at the second annual Eco-Blitz.

At the one-day event, volunteers will observe and record the varieties of organisms at Vancouver Lake, 6801 N.W. Lower River Road, choosing to identify birds, insects, macroinvertebrates, or reptiles and amphibians.

Experts will be there to help identify specific species. Birders will travel in the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership’s big canoe to identify wildlife from the water. Volunteers can pre-register for one or more shifts online at http://bit.ly/2c1bJMN. The event runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Volunteers should wear clothing fit for the weather and sturdy shoes. They also should bring their smartphones or cameras, if they have them. All ages are welcome, and no experience is required. Volunteers will be quickly trained on iNaturalist apps. Light refreshments will be available.

The Eco-Blitz is hosted by the City of Vancouver, Clark County, Port of Vancouver, and the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership.
