SEATTLE — The Bellevue-based pizza-parlor operator MOD Pizza reported strong sales growth for the first half of the year, fueled by a growth spurt in locations.

The fast-casual chain with one Clark County location said Tuesday that it logged $70.5 million in sales at its company-operated and licensed stores through the six months ending July 10, up 168 percent over the same period a year ago.

The growth reflects the addition of 80 new stores over the past 12 months, bringing it to 138 stores across 17 states and the U.K. as of July.

MOD Pizza, founded in 2008 by Scott and Ally Svenson, allows customers to build their own pizzas and charges the same price regardless of toppings.

It raised $106 million and has been on an expansion tear, opening its first international store in the U.K. in June.

MOD said it plans to open 50 more locations before the end of the year.
