Vancouver-based fitness equipment company Nautilus announced Monday it garnered $80.8 million in net sales in its third quarter, a 14.3 percent bump above earnings this time a year ago. The gains keep pace with a strong 2016 for the maker of Bowflex and other home gym equipment. Its sales top $280 million total through Sept. 30.
Its net income for the quarter was $7.6 million, up from $3.7 million in 2015.
A company spokesperson said the company was lifted by successful retail sales — though its direct sales faltered somewhat — and its acquisition earlier this year of Octane Fitness. Nautilus Inc. bought the elliptical manufacturer, based in Minnesota, for $115 million in January.
Nautilus had made $226 million in sales at this point in 2015. In a press release, CEO Bruce Cazenave said the profits stem from the company’s focus on “profitable growth through product innovation, channel diversification and disciplined management of expenses.”
It hasn’t come without breaking a sweat, however. Nautilus’ third-quarter sales over the last decade peaked in 2006 at $159.6 million before plummeting to $37.4 million in 2011 as the recession dug deeply into consumer spending.
