Fifth-graders bring food from Farm to Fork

Hazel Dell — About 80 Ellsworth Elementary School fifth-graders visited the 78th Street Heritage Farm for a Farm to Fork event, which was organized by Washington State University’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education and 4-H Youth Development programs. The students rotated through several stations, touring the orchard, harvesting corn and tasting fresh squash and carrots. They also participated in a scavenger hunt in the Roads to Roots garden. The goal of the event was to show students where their food comes from and how agriculture affects their everyday lives, as well as allow them to taste food fresh from the farm.
