Both northbound and southbound of Interstate 5 were briefly blocked at the I-5 bridge this morning for a report of a person with a weapon.
The incident was reported about 8:15 a.m., when a 911 caller reported seeing a man on a bicycle pointing a gun at passing motorists, Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson said.
When officers from the Portland Police Bureau responded, they found a transient in mental health crisis, Simpson said. He was not in possession of a weapon.
The man was taken to a Portland hospital for a mental health evaluation and the freeway reopened about 10 minutes later.
