One man was detained Monday evening after an apparent argument between neighbors led to gunshots in the area between Northeast St. Johns Road and 119th Street in Clark County.

Law enforcement was called for a disturbance with a firearm around 6:30 p.m. to a home in the 6200 block of Northeast 114th Street in the Barberton area.

Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Pete Muller said two men had a dispute. The argument escalated, and one man produced a gun and fired it into the ground.

The sheriff’s office said Shane L. Cloud, 41, of Vancouver, fired the gun. Cloud told deputies that he had contacted a neighbor, while armed, after finding that he had been the victim of a burglary.

The sheriff’s office also said Cloud told deputies that the discharge was accidental, and it occurred when he was walking back toward his residence following the argument.

Deputies didn’t find any other witnesses to the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office, and they recovered the firearm from Cloud. He was booked on suspicion of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
