CHELATCHIE — Road No. 42 in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest has been repaired and is open for travel, the Forest Service announced.

During the past four weeks, crews have replaced culverts; improved ditch, shoulder and road surfaces; realigned the road and added erosion control features.

While the road remains gravel, conditions should be noticeably better for motorists, said Bob Varner, Gifford Pinchot National Forest engineer.

Road No. 42 runs east-west through the west side of the Gifford Pinchot paralleling the East Fork of the Lewis and Green Fork, past Cougar Rock and to the Trout Creek drainage on the east.
