Two adults were displaced after a fire late Sunday night damaged a West Hazel Dell house.

Firefighters were called to 806 N.W. 78th St. just before 10:30 p.m. for a report of a blaze at the 1,100-square-foot ranch-style house, Clark County Fire District 6 spokesman David Schmitke said.

By the time crews arrived, the fire, which started outside the house, had climbed up the siding and spread into the attic, Schmitke said.

Crews went inside the house, pulled down the ceiling and sprayed water on the flames, putting the fire out within 15 minutes, Schmitke said. Crews remained on scene for a couple hours to make sure flames didn’t fire back up.

Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson said that the fire was accidental and either caused by ashes from a barbecue or smoking materials. The damage estimate for the structure and contents was about $50,000, he said.
