The Hudson’s Bay High School student seriously injured after he was struck by an SUV while crossing East Mill Plain Boulevard earlier this month remained in the hospital Thursday, but he has since improved and is listed in satisfactory condition.

Vancouver police Thursday identified the rider as Vancouver’s Reed A. Derrickson. The 15-year-old was hospitalized Oct. 6 after he attempted to cross Mill Plain near Reserve Street on his bike, according to the police.

He went to cross in the crosswalk, the police said, then an oncoming SUV was unable to stop in time and hit him. He apparently didn’t activate the crosswalk signal, police said.

The SUV’s driver — Ruperto Reyes Alonso, 33, of Happy Valley, Ore. — remained at the scene, and Derrickson was taken to  PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in critical condition.

The police said that day that nothing indicated excessive speed or driver impairment factoring into the collision, and no citations had been issued.

The Vancouver Police Department’s Traffic Unit’s investigation into the crash is ongoing, the police said.
