Vancouver – The city of Vancouver’s Public Works department will have self-serve sand bag sites available starting this morning, ahead of expected rainy weather.

Residents must bring their own shovels, but sand and sand bags will be available at:

• The former Golden Skate building, in front of a fence and near the sign, at 4915 E. Fourth Plain Blvd.

• Near the driveway to the Vancouver Public Works site at 912 N.E. 192nd Ave.

The National Weather Service issued Tuesday a hazardous weather outlook for the region.

The forecast calls for rain starting later tonight, with heavy rain developing Thursday and Thursday night. Forecasters also expect south winds with gusts as around 30 to 40 mph.

A much stronger storm is forecast for Saturday, with heavier rainfall that may result in localized flooding, the weather service said.

Depending on the track of the storm, the area might see winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 55 mph.
