The Rev. Gregory Boyle will speak at Columbia Presbyterian Church from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and during worship services 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 16.
Boyle is a TED Talks speaker, New York Times best-selling author of “Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion,” and former pastor at east Los Angeles’ Dolores Mission, the poorest Catholic parish in the city. He founded Homeboy Industries, a gang intervention, rehabilitation and re-entry program that provides services such as tattoo removal, job training, counseling and substance abuse classes.
Columbia Presbyterian said in a news release that Boyle will talk about “human kinship and stories from his ministry with former gang members. However, we have also asked him to share about how he and his parish came to discover their calling to enact change in their particular neighborhood.”
Columbia Presbyterian is at 805 Columbia Ridge Drive in Vancouver. Register for the Oct. 15 talk online at www.columbiapresbyterian.org/announcements/columbia-lecture-series-father-boyle. The cost is $15 per person, $10 for students or $50 per family.
