How Clark County college football players fared, Oct. 1

By Micah Rice, Columbian Sports Editor

Sometimes, it only takes one play to make a difference.

Saturday, Mountain View graduate Ryan Johnson made the play of the game for Montana’s defense in a 43-20 win over Southern Utah.

With the Grizzlies up 29-14 midway through the third quarter, Southern Utah had driven to Montana’s 17 yard line. But Johnson, the starting defensive end, intercepted a pass at the line of scrimmage. He returned it 40 yards, stiff-arming would-be tacklers along the way.

Montana scored eight plays later to put the game away.

Johnson also had five tackles and one sack. He was named defensive player of the game and nominated for Big Sky defensive player of the week.
